I live in Michigan for those of you who arent aware of that .

These are hard times for us as we are in the middle of Winter as alot of us are.

We went from bitter cold last week of below 0F to 30F this week, and it felt like a heatwave.  How sad is that? lol

So for the past few days it has been sloppy as snow is melting a little. My house has ice cicles hanging from the roof, and each morning I open my door, and they crash to the ground.

The roads are clear at the moment.  Even the side roads.

Tomorrow?

We are expecting another 2 inches of snow.   hmm

Sighhhhhh.

Someone please post something about warm weather. lol

Friday Night...Cloudy. A chance of light snow during the evening...then snow. Accumulations 2 to 4 inches likely. Lows 22 to 26. Light and variable winds...becoming south 5 to 10 mph...then turning to southeast late. Chance of snow 90 percent.

Ugh.....here we go again.....lol

Have snow shovel standing by.....

Honestly, if it were not for my family, I would of packed up a long time ago and moved to Florida.

I can see it now,  a old mobile home, wheels still attached, parked on a over grown lot.  I'll have plastic pink flamingos in my yard too.

I'll stay in my bath robe all day, curlers in my hair, cigarette hanging out of my mouth, and go outside just to check my mail and chase away the neighbor kids. lol

Hey....it could happen....lol

 tonguetongue  lol

The snow will start here about 10PM.  They were talking 2 inches, but now more like 4 inches.

My back already hurts from the snow I will shovel tomorrow in my driveway. lol

I hope it is that light and fluffy snow, not the heavy wet snow. That stuff puts my back into spasms when I try to lift it.

Ohhhh Gawdddd, someone send me a plane ticket outta here.  lol

How to Shovel Snow

Shoveling snow is a fact of life in colder parts of the world. So grab your snow shovel and follow these steps to make sure your driveway and walking areas are safe in any weather.

Difficulty:  NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE lol

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Waterproof Mittens
  • Wool Scarves
  • Snow Shovels
HD_clickable2_area.gifGet what you need for every
project at HomeDepot.com
  1. Make sure you have a good snow shovel. Most snow shovels have open ends that allow you to easily toss the snow off to the side.

  2. Consider your physical condition. If you are out of shape you should proceed with caution. Snow is heavy and shoveling is hard work - you don't want to risk a serious injury or jeopardize your health. If you have a heart condition or back problems, you should definitely not shovel snow unless your doctor approves it.

  3. Remove the snow from the driveway and any walkways needed to get into and out of the house. Don't forget the areas around the mailbox, garbage cans and other places you'll want access to.

  4. Work toward the areas where you are depositing the snow so that you have less distance to toss it as you tire.

  5. Chip away any ice that you find under the snow and remove the chunks with the shovel.

  6. Spread rock salt over the cleared area to avoid icing.

  7. Sand any areas that remain slippery.

Tips & Warnings
  • Dress in layers for warmth. You can remove layers as you become warm from the exertion.
  • Pay close attention to the weather. Extremely cold temperatures can be a serious health hazard. If you begin to feel the effects of the cold, stop and go inside for a while.
  • Every year a large number of people have heart attacks or other health problems from overexertion while shoveling snow. Don't overdo it - especially if you are normally sedentary or already have a pre-existing condition.

 Addition to list:

      > When done, immediatley take two Advil as you will need them in about 20 minutes. (This is if you are able to walk still.  If not, have someone carry you in, and get them for you.)

      > ICE YOUR BACK

      > It is important to stay upright. If you shovel, then sit or lay down to quickly, everything will "freeze" up and you wont be able to move.

      >  Realize that when you wake up the next morning, your body will feel like it has been hit by a Semi truck, and there is nothing you can do about it.

lol  Thats because the folks that have to experience a real Winter have bought them all, and had them shipped to their snowy State. roll

Well, woke up this morning to 5 new inches of snow on the ground.  It is the light and fluffy stuff thank God, as I will be shoveling sometime today.

This mornings forecast also calls for possible freezing drizzle mixed in with yet more snow. Joy Joy.  Good thing I have no where I need to be. I hate driving in this stuff.
Not that I could get my car out without serious digging first anyways.

Time to shut the curtains, and turn on the fireplace.  I have my coffee and NDF.

I am good to go.  thumb

Sat - 70
Sun - 70
Mon - 61
Tue - 58
Wed - 54

Uh ohhhh .......... we are gonna have a cold spell come Tuesday. And all our snow shovels are sold out also! hahaha

Seriously though, I would love a couple days of snow. Remember a couple weeks back they said we were gonna get snow? Parts of Tucson did, but I didn't get to see any of it.

Well, I did it.

I broke down and called the neighbor to snow blow my driveway tomorrow.

The guy only charges $5 bucks, but I have plans on giving him a tip.

Sometimes we just have to admit we are beaten.

Mother Nature is going to be in a bad mood tomorrow and dump 12+ inches of snow.  Not only that, but it will be blowing around and miserable.

My snow shovel is for hire, as I am not using it tomorrow. lol

lol   All I can really do is laugh.  It snowed so bad last night, and the wind blew so bad that my car is under the snow, and I couldnt open my back door to let the dogs out.

The driveway is completely gone, and it just keeps snowing and blowing.

The city shut down, and we are told to stay off the roads if possible.  NO PROBLEM. lol

Here is todays forecast:

Today: Snow and widespread blowing snow. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 21. Wind chill values as low as -2. Blustery, with a north northeast wind 25 to 28 mph decreasing to between 16 and 19 mph. Winds could gust as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

weird

Someone tell me about some nice weather out there.

This is my old hoopty buried this morning.

The school is across the street, which is of course closed today.

Between the end of my driveway, and the school is a road, yet it is hard to realize that, as it is all snow too.

The sun is actually shining today after such a long storm.  thumb

My driveway is plowed, and I actually got mail this morning.  Yesterday it truely did not run due to the weather.   Thats a first for me to hear of that.   The mail could not get out of Saginaw because of the roads.

Nothing of interest in the next few days as far as weather.  Cold but sunny.  It gives people a little time to dig out from this storm.

Schools are still closed today.

I drempt of PSP's picture last night and that I was sitting at the table drinking frilly drinks.  lol Enjoying the sunshine and warmth.

Wow, if I went to Arizona for a vacation, and it was the temperature you just described, I would be less than thrilled.  lol

What a cruel joke for it to be that temp in Arizona.  Some things just arent right. lol

Ben, being a soft water technician, had mega calls from all over the city today regarding broken water pipes. Tucsonians just don't know how to deal with the cold. lol

We covered our pipes here at home and we knew to leave the water running a bit through the night.

Tonight is going to be even colder than last night. We are expected to hit 15 degrees tonight. Isn't that nuts?!?!

Oh and speaking of coming to AZ for vacation, the Gem and Mineral show is going on right now (suppose to be the largest in the world every year) and they expect dismal attendance because of the cold. :(

Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 25. Southwest wind between 14 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.

Tonight: A 20 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17. Southwest wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.

My lovely forecast for Mid Michigan today.   The sun will shine, and I am soooo thankful for that.

Was absolutley freezing last night, my furnace couldnt catch a break. As soon as it shut off, back on it came within minutes.  Ohhh, the joy of heat bills. Just paid my last months heat bill.  Was $270 last month, and this next months will be out any day. lol  The crazy thing is , is that my house is little.  I cant imagine what people who live in a BIG house pay for heat in weather like this.  doh

How is the weather in Arizona Mben?  How about you PSP?   Are either of you getting any warmth yet?

Well, after checking the forecast today we are once again expecting snow.  Nothing like last time thank goodness, but enough to slicken up the roads for sure.

It will come Sunday and Sunday night.

As of 4PM on Sunday I will be tucked away in the warm Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort to watch the big game and spin a little at halftime. hehehe

I am soooo looking forward to that.  A few friends will stop by and share my free room with me, and I told them all to bring food and beer.  lol  (Why should I use my comp dollars to feed them right?) haha

As for today it is simply another long winter day, no sun, no warmth, no break from it at all.  The snow piles are everywhere, and it makes it hard to see when your driving and pulling out into traffic. bleh

On a good note, it is already February, and we will start to think of Spring before to long.   We have to concentrate on  that around here, or we go a little crazy. lol

About 2 inches of snow fell last night, and it made all my errands I had to do in this AM, a SLOW GO.

It is amazing to me. When we got 10 inches, the roads were cleared in just hours, yet we get 2 inches, and the roads remain lousy, and I see no salt or plow trucks of any kind.  confuse

Just on and off snow showers for the rest of the day.  Thank goodness.  Gonna get cold though, low tonight in the single digits.  Brrrrr.

I woke up to 5 whole degrees this morning.  The snow crunches when you walk on it, and if you breath thru your nose, your breath freezes inside of it.  Joy Joy.

You simply dont leave the house without your gloves, or you'll be struggling for sure.

I wear my boots more than my shoes, and although a hat gives me a "BAD HAIR DAY" I opt to wear one in this weather.

The joys of winter here in Michigan.

Today: Mostly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 13 by 5pm. Wind chill values as low as -1. West wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around -2. Wind chill values as low as -11. West wind between 7 and 10 mph becoming calm.

The word today is WIND CHILL:

Wind chill (often popularly called the wind chill factor) is the felt air temperature on exposed skin due to wind. It measures the effect of wind on air temperature. The wind chill temperature is usually lower than the air temperature, since the air temperature is usually lower than the human body temperature.

All that being said, "Wind Chill is a Bad word. lol

There is no difference as far as I am concerned.  You simply DO NOT go outside for any reason unless the house is on fire, or your bleeding. lol

Wind chill is like 20 below, lol I dont care anymore.  I just know it is cold.

However, there is a shining light next week.  Supposed to get up into the 40's by next Thursday.

Hey, it aint much, but I'll take it.

Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 31. West northwest wind between 14 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

Tonight: Snow. Steady temperature around 28. Southwest wind between 9 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

I cant believe as cold as it has been, when the temp reaches 31, it is time for a celebration.  It actually feels warm to me. Funny what we get used to when we have no choice.

All this snow will begin to melt at 31 degrees, and then tonight, we get 2 more inches. hahahah  Whatever.

This morning the sun is shining, and that is always a good thing.

Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 39. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tonight: A 40 percent chance of snow showers after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 37. Breezy, with a west southwest wind between 16 and 20 mph.

A high of 39?  I'll take it. thumb lol

We had a high of about 34 yesterday and the snow begins to melt.  While it does this, it becomes slippery.

My driveway has a slight slope on it at the apron of it, and I was strolling out to get the mail.  Got there just fine, but on my return trip, down I went.  BAM, right on my hip and elbow.

I lay there a sec, and make sure everything is still in one piece, and get up.  I felt fine.  I was like...."Yea, I'm 42, and can still handle a fall. "  " No problem."

hahahaha, Woke up about 3:30am, when I went to roll over and my back and arm was throbbing.   Ohhhhhh, did someone get the license number of the truck that ran me over?  Thats how I am feeling this morning. lol

I usually have one good fall each Winter, and I hope this was it.  Geeshhhhh.

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 36. South wind between 7 and 11 mph.

Tonight: A chance of freezing drizzle after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. South southwest wind between 11 and 14 mph.

Freezing drizzle? Oh geeshhhh.

The sun will be shining today at least, and we will reach a high of 36.  Helps melt more snow away.

The roads are clear, and have been for several days now, so it helps when you have to go somewhere, not to have to worry you are NOT going to make it. lol

I cant wait till I can complain about how HOT it is. lol

I am seriously throwing around moving to Florida, so this time next year, I will be in a better spot.

Woke up to freezing drizzle.  Not good.  Everything outside has a thin layer of ice on it.   Makes for some not so fun driving this morning, however I did see a salt truck go by and that is promising.

Going to get up into the 40's today.  Now that is a serious heatwave in these parts, this time of year.  I'll take it.

The sun promises to shine today, and with a high of 40 some, I'll think I went to sleep and woke up in Florida.  lol

Still tossing around moving to Florida.  I have some family down there, and I am tired of Winter here.

Today: A 40 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 54. South southwest wind between 11 and 13 mph.

Tonight: Rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 39. Southwest wind between 11 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

54? I'll take it.

Woke up this morning and stepped outside.  Felt almost balmy compared to what we have been having in the past month.  The snow is melting rapidly, and I see bare patches of ground.  Dont you know of course it is going to rain today to ruin my enjoyment of the warmer temps.

In situations like this, I must step back and be thankful that the percipitation is in liquid form, and not SNOW.

Today...Mostly sunny...then becoming partly sunny late. Windy. highs 41 to 45. West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph.

Tonight...Partly cloudy early...then becoming mostly clear. Windy. lows 19 to 23. West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph through 10 pm...diminishing to 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph...then turning to northwest late.

Batten down the hatches (and garbage cans) The wind is a gonna blowwwww.

Looking ahead to Sunday the weather seems to be turning ugly again.

Stay tuned for sleet, snow, and freezing drizzle all rolled up into one.  bleh  Gawd I am tired of Michigan Winters.

Sunday: Snow, mainly after noon. High near 28. East southeast wind between 7 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Sunday Night: Snow. Low around 22. Blustery, with a east northeast wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Been watching the weather report pretty close again for the next winter storm thats going to roll thru.  Promises to be nasty one. doh

Looks like Ill be calling on my neighbor again to snow plow my driveway, as anything over 3 inches is tuff to shovel.

Yesterday the wind blew so hard it rattled the windows, turned much colder, and re-froze all the standing water.

Florida is sounding better and better.  thumb

Well, sure enough, just as the weatherman promised, we got dumped on. doh

More shoveling, icy roads, and cold cold temps.

I actually slid into a curb yesterday, blew a tire from the icy roads. (And I consider myself an excellent driver in snow) What a mess it turned out to be. cry

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 25. East northeast wind between 10 and 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 6. East wind between 5 and 8 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 32. Wind chill values as low as -2. South southeast wind between 6 and 9 mph.

Today is sunny but colddddd.    I have been having my car worked on by a shade tree mechanic, and after I get it back today from the tire shop, I have to get a new starter put in. That too is dying fast because of the cold weather.  The rod wont engage when it is cold, and all I get is a whining noise. lol  Just the way I feel too in the cold.lol

My move to Florida will happen before Fall of this year.  I am considering Ft. Myers Florida.

Tired of these Michigan Winters that last from Oct-April.

Ewwww, that does indeed sound miserable to being outside in for more than 1 minute. disbeliefdoh When it is raining, and the wind blows that hard? It is actually raining sideways.   IT SUCKS.

Woke up to snow on the roads this morning, and tonight promises another dusting again, but nothing major like the 8-10 inches we have been getting. Phewww.

I'm feeling cheated!

The local weater people have been pumping up the storm that we had last night and today as the MOAS (Mother of all storms) with 3" of rain and possible snow showers for the first time in decades!

We got an inch of rain last and it is partly cloudy with the temp in the mid 50s at the moment

BFD!

It was nothing compared to Michigan snow but that little bit of snow could have shut down TUSD (Tucson Unified School District) schools for the whole week! lol JK

This is my old hoopty buried this morning.

The school is across the street, which is of course closed today.

Between the end of my driveway, and the school is a road, yet it is hard to realize that, as it is all snow too.

Been Sunny for two days now.  Doesnt do to much to warm up the outside, but the sunshine is so nice to see.

This weekend is gearing up right now, and I think we are in for more nasty weather.
All it says right now is snow/freezing rain/ cold temps. Ugh.

I dream each day of Florida, and when I leave Michigan and hit I-75 SOUTH.  lol

Vvvrrooommmmmmm.

Today: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 28. Wind chill values as low as zero. Southeast wind between 7 and 11 mph.

Tonight: A slight chance of snow and sleet before midnight, then a chance of snow and freezing rain. Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 25. Southeast wind between 6 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday: Rain or freezing rain, becoming all rain after 11am. High near 40. South southeast wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no ice accumulation expected.

Taking a trip this weekend to see my Nephew Drake for his 2nd birthday. Looks like the weather is going to cooperate for me. It's a long trip to Detroit from here, and if the weather turns bad, I will have to cancel.

I just hate it when the weather decides for you what you are going to be able to do and not do. bleh

Sunny, sunny and sunny here today with a high of 79 wonderful degrees. It's actually going to be in the mid to upper 70's for a whole week more. We had snow 5 days ago and now these temps.

We have had some crazy weather this winter, that's for sure and I probably wouldn't have noticed it all like I have without this thread, Pam. Cool thread!

Snow, snow, go away. Come again some other day! Like when it's NOT Drake's birthday! Happy Birthday little man!

Where have all my weather watchers been?  No new weather updates for 4 days...cry

Here is a look at my nasty weather forecast for the next 36 hours.

Tonight: A chance of snow and sleet after 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. East wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Wednesday: Snow, possibly mixed with freezing rain and sleet before noon, then rain and snow. High near 39. Breezy, with a east southeast wind between 13 and 21 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

March is known for bad weather in Michigan. It is trying to warm up, yet Winter has not released its ugly grip, so we end up getting a mixture of Rain, freezing rain, snow, sleet, etc.  Very bad news alot of the time.

When I see a forecast like this, I then move on and check Floridas weather, lol and I feel better knowing I will be there this time next year.

Saturday: A chance of rain, snow, and freezing rain before 7am, then a chance of rain and snow. Cloudy, with a high near 39. Breezy, with a south wind 9 to 12 mph becoming west between 20 and 23 mph. Winds could gust as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Will this brutal winter EVER end? I mean, it's only supposed to be upper 70s today instead of the low 80s ...

lollol PSP, you always make me laugh when you say stuff like that.

My weather here in Mid Michigan just cannot seem to warm up, or stop with the icy percipitation. no

Today: A chance of rain or freezing rain before 10am, then rain and snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 37. Breezy, with a southwest wind 8 to 11 mph increasing to between 17 and 20 mph. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Tonight: A chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 28. West northwest wind between 8 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. North northwest wind between 7 and 9 mph.

On a good note, I did a little more packing yesterday for my move to Florida in May/June.

Went thru all my clothes, and got rid of many many heavy winter coats and sweatshirts I no longer wore.  I said to myself " I will never need these again where I am going."  It made me smile. smile

As a side note, was able to give the clothes away to a woman that really needed them.   I was delighted that they will go to good use.

Ohhhhh, lucky day....

We will have sunshine and hit 40 whopping degrees.  Melt this nasty dirty snow away. bleh

This whole coming week it promises to be decent for us, as far as decent can get in Michigan for March. lol

Trust me, there is good reason to be happy when it reaches 40 degrees.  It has been so cold for so long you get thrilled to see a break in the freezing temps.thumb

Mid 80's for the highs this week and mid 40's for the lows. Absolutely gorgeous weather.
