Bingo Lingo By Christina Applebaum A glossary of words and phrases used in bingo halls. Early Bird A mini session played before the regular session. Session A session is the entire Bingo program of all the games scheduled to be played. Typically there are evening sessions and afternoon sessions. A session usually lasts between two and a half hours and three hours. Admission Packet An admission packet it the least amount of paper you must buy. It usually contains all of the games scheduled to be played minus the special game and 2 books of 6 ons. If you are able to play more cards than what are in the admission packet, then you can get them when you buy your packet. Bingo Board An electronic display that lights up showing each number as it is called and that has been called. Card A Bingo card has 5 rows of 5 squares each containing a random number. at the top of the 5 columns the 5 rows create are the letters B-I-N-G-O. (the center square on the card is typically called the "free space" and contains no number). Numbers 01 to 15 are found in the B Column Numbers 16 to 30 are found in the I Column Numbers 31 to 45 are found in the N Column Numbers 46 to 60 are found in the G Column Numbers 61 to 75 are found in the O Column Six On, Four on, Three On These are sheets of paper that contain either 6, 4 or 3 cards printed on them. Books Books are basically just that- books. Books of the afore mentioned Six On, Four on, Three On's. the number of sheets in the books re how may regular games to be played in the session. Dauber A dauber is an ink filled pen or bottle with a round foam pad on the tip, and is used to mark the numbers on the card as they are called. Dauber Glue Dauber glue comes in a small dauber an is used to temporarily anchor your cards to the table. it keeps them from moving around which is very helpful when playing a large amount of paper. The paper is easily removed after the game an thrown away. Pattern Patterns are different for each game. The caller will announce the pattern at the beginning of each game and that is the pattern that needs to be marked on you card in order to win. Patterns can include, line, picture frame, X, four corners and really anything because bingo halls all have their own patterns. Not to worry, if you don't know a pattern they show an example of the pattern before the game begins. Special Specials are extra games you can buy that will be played during the session that are not included in the admission packet. You can buy theses when you're buying your admission packet or on the floor from runners. Runner A runner is an attendant that walks the floor selling specials and extra paper and who verifies the bingos when called.
