Chinese New Year kicked off yesterday 1/23/12 and will be celebrated for two weeks. This is the Year of the Dragon.Las Vegas will see a rise in foreign tourists wanting to test their luck in the casinos as the New Year is seen as a lucky time for most Chinese. Tina Lee is the events coordinator with the Las Vegas Chinese American Chamber of Commerce. She said the Chinese New Year is a time when families sweep away the previous year's bad luck in hopes of making room for good luck in the coming months. The strip casinos will display decorations for the holiday. Traditional symbols include plum blossom and water narcissus flowers, dragons, red envelopes and tangerines and oranges. Those are the fruit that represent luck and wealth.<img class="photograph" src="http://photos.lasvegassun.com/media/img/photos/2012/01/17/scaled.7_t218.jpg?1a61d65e7540c9d96da35dd25723d3a144fc1a87" alt="Image" style="font-size:14px;font:inherit;vertical-align:baseline;color:#333333;font-family:'Droid Sans', sans-serif;line-height:18px;border-width:1px;padding:0px;margin:0px;" />Audrey Dempsey -  2012 Chinese New Year at the Palazzo.Check out all the festivities that will occur throughout the city from the Strip to Freemont Street! One of the major celebrations is scheduled for Jan. 29 at the Chinatown Plaza, 4255 Spring Mountain Rd., where attractions include traditional lion dances and dragon dances, plus arts and crafts, calligraphy booths and Chinese fortune tellers.A variety of Asian food vendors, representing cuisines from China to Vietnam to Japan, will also be on hand.
