Hours Away From A Possible US Government Shutdown - Congress In Gridlock Over Obamacare

President Barack Obama sternly warned Monday that a seemingly inevitable government shutdown would throw a wrench into the gears of our economy but bluntly told Republicans they can't stop the law popularly known as Obamacare. You can't shut it down, Obama said in the White House briefing room, noting that the Affordable Care Act would not be sidetracked even of much of government shuts.Still, such a shutdown could damage the fragile economic recovery, the president said, calling it the height of irresponsibility and pushing House Republicans to drop extraneous and controversial demands. All of this is entirely preventable if the House chooses to do what the Senate has already done, by passing a so-called continuing resolution to fund government without targeting Obamacare, he said. His hastily arranged remarks came with just hours left before a partial government shutdown triggered by congressional battling over spending legislation.Republicans who control the House have tried to use a catch-all bill needed to avert the shutdown to attack the Affordable Care Act, popularly known as Obamacare. Democrats who control the Senate have rejected every attempt to do so, backed up by Obama's threat to veto any legislation that aims to cripple his signature domestic achievement. As Obama spoke, there appeared to be no clear path to avoid a shutdown - a crisis that could rattle financial markets and will leave millions of government workers and contractors will far less money in their pockets. The federal government is America's largest employer, the president underlined. All of us will be hurt greatly. source20 questions answered here ... http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/30/politics/government-shutdown-up-to-speed/Here's another article ... http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/09/30/shutdown-looms-as-senate-comes-back/2896389/

Gov't Shutdown - Best Newspaper Front Pages Ranked

On this, the first day of October, the United States's elected officials refused to act like adults and shut down the government instead. The good news is that in doing so, they gave every newspaper editor in the country the opportunity to do something great and wonderful with their front pages. But there can only be one winner.... Fifth place: USA Today. C'mon, no sad faces? No sad Capitol building? A big meanwhile that segues into a graphic for another story? Fifth place for you USA Today. Fourth Place: The Wall Street Journal. Now here's what we're talking about the editors at the Journal went for a frown trifecta, and gave us a sad Harry Reid, a dejected Obama, and John Boehner's resting face. Third Place: The New York Post. We were expecting more from The Post. But apparently motor psychos and an Anna Kournikova feature were too delicious not to run. Second Place: The Washington Post's style section. Technically, this isn't the front page of the paper which is why it's in second place. It should have been: First Place: New York's Daily News. You win the morning. source
