I'm Making The Switch To E-cigs!

For the last couple of weeks, I have bought disposable E-cigs to see if they would help be quit smoking real cigarettes. I am happy to say YES, they are going to help me kick the nasty habit! I tried the disposable Blu e-cig. As far as the smoke , it was ok. But the cigarette itself was too big and bulky. I felt like I was sucking on a plastic tube. lol They have a kit that I believe has normal cigarette size e-cigs but the kit starts at $59.99 at Walgreens and I did not want to sink that much money into something that I was testing. The disposable was $9.99 and lasts the equivalent of 1.5 packs of smokes. Walgreens has another disposable e-cig called NJOY. It is a normal size and costs $7.99. It equals 2 packs of smokes. I enjoyed the NJOY. The act of smoking it was believable. As a smoker, I need my nicotine but I also need the (what's the word) sensation of smoking. I need to feel and see the smoke besides getting my nicotine craving cured. This e-cig did all of that for me. I know there are quite a few different brands out there that I would probably want to try to find my perfect e-cig but for now, this NJOY will help me quit smokingI'm excited about all the +'s there are to not smoking. No more health risks (even though the FDA has not approved e-cigs, they have to be less risky than real smoking), no more smelly clothes, etc and I can smoke in bars now (I am so used to having to step outside to have a smoke anywhere that this is not a big deal really. lol)! Wish me luck! I am not getting any younger and need to start thinking about my health so I need all the luck I can get! The day I walk into a store and buy just an e-cig (or a kit eventually) and not paired with a real pack of smokes to have as a back up , is the day I know I have finally quit!  <a href="http://sigbanner.e-cigarette-forum.com/sig1/banner.html" >

Ouch!I forgot to mention that, krystalkitty ... the cost of smoking will drop for me too. I never buy cartons (except when I went down to Mexico and bought Marlboros for $21 a carton a few years back) because I smoked them too fast. I usually buy 2 packs at a time. Knowing I only have those two packs, I ration myself. Having 10 packs of smokes on me ..... oh boy .... chug a chug a choo choooo! All aboard! hahahaha I am spending approximately $7.50 per pack of Marlboros. $7.99 for a e-cig that lasts up to 2 packs of smokes is a gonga deal! Also, if this post helps but one member quit, I have done my part! I am not going to be a hypocrite and preach about the dangers of smoking. Us smokers know what they are and we are all adults. We make our own choices. But if one of you quits because of this, then I will be happy. krystalkitty, if you do try an e-cig, let us know what you think about it.

I'm super excited! I went to Walgreens to buy just another disposable e-cig this morning because mine ran out and they had the Blu starter kit in stock (the Walgreens I go to by my friend's house has been out of weeks now) and it was on sale for half price! $59.99 marked down to $29.99! I was going to pay over $8 for a disposable cig so I got this started kit for basically $20! Yahooo! The kit comes with ...5 variety pack of cartridges that hold the nicotine/flavor mixture. 2 Classic, menthol, java and cherry. Each cartridge has approximately 250 puffs equals 1 pack of reg cigarettes. (I just bought 5 packs of smokes for $29.99 essentially)2 rechargable batteries1 Rechargable battery pack that acts as a cig and cartridge holder. Can hold 2 cigs and 5 cartridges. When it is charged, you can use it to charge the batteries too. Batteries can be charged by a USB port charger also. 1 AC adapter and cord1 USB port adapterTook about an hour to charge a battery. After attaching a classic cartridge directly to the battery, it is the same size as a regular cigarette. I knew the kits had a different size e-cig than what the disposable Blu was. That was a tube, like I mentioned the other day. This is a nice size. The only thing is the weight, the color and the cherry color. Much heavier than a reg smoke, the cig is black and the color of the cherry is not red, it's blue. lol I have one last real cigarette left that I will be saving as a back up. Today starts my e-cig only experiment. Yikes! lol

noooo I heard the Blu were terrible! I hope you find that you like them Mben. How odd to be away a month, come back and see this thread. We have mulled it over all through June, and have decided to try the E-Cigs too lol! We are getting our kits online, but haven't decided which yet. All I know, is I read a lot of negative reviews on Blu. Please let me know what you truly think of them ok?

Oh man! You're 7 hours too late, Mikey! lol Well I guess if I end up hating Blu, then I will be consoled by the fact that I paid half price for the kit. I will search for Blu reviews and see what others have said. I chose them because they were convenient to pick up cartridges, (Circle K's, 7-Eleven's, Walgreens all open 24 hours) instead of having to order online. Also, we do have a Freedom Smoke Shop here in town that specializes in e-cigs (over 700 flavors! lol) but I'd have to make a special trip there too just for refills. Also, their cheapest starter kit is $79.99 that I saw. Anyway, price and convenience were the first requirements for me. Now that I am past that, I am not minding the Blu at all. So far today ... no real cigarette. If you are looking into other brands, let us know which you end up with Mikay. I can always switch and others may try what you find. Good luck to us both!

girl, I've been e-smoking - vape-ing since jan 16, 2013. I've been smoking real ciggies for 35 years. I haven't touched a real cig since jan. 16, 2013. I can hook anyone up with wholesale links to kits, juice, starter sets, batteries, atomizer, cartomizers, battery chargers, wicks and anything else you need for e-cigs. I won't pay retail. I'm all about getting it wholesale. So if you want, I can post the links here or thru pm's Let me know what is the proper way to go about it. Glad you're making the switch. I'm vaping amaretto/caramel apple that I just made last night. I have it at a 10 nicotine level. I started out at 20 nic level back in January. Love the flavors. Nina

Hi Nina! The more success stories I hear, the more convinced I get that this IS going to work for me. I've been smoking for 30 years now. Please do post the links here. There's more members on the forum interested in e-cigs than I thought and the information would be helpful for everyone. You can click on subscribe in the top right hand corner of the thread so you will get email notifications whenever anyone replies. Oh and by the way, the amaretto/carmarel apple sounds delicious!

Since you have the Blu already, I would go to a local smoke shop and get some e juice. Instead of buying the filter cartomizers, pop open the top of the blu filter and add a few drops of the e juice. That should save you money until you can buy a new set up. hope this helps and thanks for letting me post my link. xoxo Nina

Update ....."
I have not completely kicked the real cigarette habit yet but I have gone a couple of days at a time without a real cigarette at all since July 1st. That's a start for me. "
As far as the Blu flavors (4 different flavors came with the kit ... cherry, menthol, classic tobacco and coffee) are concerned ... the cherry is nice, the menthol is ok, the classic tobacco has a slight coffee flavor and the coffee flavor is disgusting! lol The battery life is ok but the fact that it had 2 batteries in the kit is a real lifesaver. All in all, I am satisfied with the Blu setup. "
Since I have finished 2 of the cartridges, I went down to our local e-cig store (<a href="http://freedomsmokeusa.com">freedomsmokeusa.com</a>) for the first time and was a little bit overwhelmed. lol There were 2 little showcases that had their vaping tools. I say tools because they don't have a cigarette looking device. Have a look on their site and you will see what they sell. Anyway, I went to buy e-juice only. "
So they hand me a binder, a big, BIG binder that was full of their different flavors. Hundreds and hundreds of them. I think they advertise that they have over 700 flavors. I tell the clerk I want 2 flavors ... one that tastes just like Marlboro Reds and a candy or fruity flavor. They had a Marlboro flavor and their newest flavor was called Funny Dip, like the candy Fun Dip. I was able to sample both. Both were just what I wanted so I got them for $4 per .5ml bottle."
Besides the flavor, they asked if I wanted a flavor booster added for .15 cents and I said yes. And they also asked what nicotine level I wanted. The Blu cartridges came with a nicotine level of 16. I got nicotine levels of 20 at the smoke shop because after asking the clerk what would be comparable to a Marlboro 100, he said 20. "
So I head back home to refill my Blu cartridges with my new e-juice. I filled 2 with each flavor last night after watching one video as a refresher. The smoke was good, the flavor of each was excellent. This morning I decided to watch another refill video (the one I posted above) and saw something different about that refill. I took the same two cartridges that I refilled last night and followed this second video (the guy had took out an o-ring that the other guy didn't) and I'll tell you what! It made such a difference as far as the vapor goes. "
4 drops of e-juice and the cartridge is full. A cartridge lasts about the same amount as 1 pack of real smokes. These bottles will last me quite a while. 4 drops are nothing! "
With the flavor, the smoke and nicotine level that is comparable to my regular cigarette brand that the Maxx Blend juice has, I feel more confident that I will be kicking the habit completely very soon. "
My problem will then be wanting to try all 700 flavors! lol

Went to an online casino (sucked)....anyway I got to try a unovapor eco cig...think I tried banana bread! I about choked to death.....when I find what I want, I need to learn to use it! Guess you have to take a puff, then inhale and exhale!! Wasn't bad! She gave me another site.....<a href="http://ecocigs.com">ecocigs.com</a>. She recommended that I start at nicotine Level 16 considering how much I smoke. Gonna check out the site soon. Looks to be very affordable after the inital chargers, etc...

Awesome that you got to try one, kk! Banana bread sounds yummy! lolAs far as choking to death ... there are so many different types of vaping devices that give more or less smoke, operate totally differently from each other, etc. There are manual batteries that you actually have to hold a button down to activate it as you are inhaling. There are automatic batteries that all you do is inhale and it activates. There are some devices where you can regulate the amount of vapor you want also. The Blu battery is an automatic battery which I really like. There are other e-cig brands that come with the automatic battery. I am not trying to push Blu. It's just what I have. lolI am not the e-cig expert but am trying to educate myself on this new to me fad. Actually, I wouldn't call it a fad. I'll call it a way of life. So anyway, this is what I have learned so far. Affordable ... YES! (after the initial buying of the kits like you said)

Hi girls, I have my original e cig that looks like a real cig for sale. I paid $65 for the set up at our local vapor store, but I'll take $35 for it including shipping within the USA. I have flavors that I can fill the cartridges with at whatever nicotine level you'd like. It will include 2 e cig batters, 2 cartomizers (filters), the usb charger and a case. I have red or black. It is a hard leather like case.  I have Marlboro, Peach, Amaretto, Caramel Apple, Grape, Pear, Kiwi and Strawberry.  My email is <a href="mailto:dreamypleasures.candles@yahoo.com">dreamypleasures.candles@yahoo.com</a> or you can contact me here.

When I first took a drag off the manual e cigs, I coughed my head off. My friend didn't tell me to press the button and draw very slow. It is not like a real ciggy. I just sold the below set for $35 to a girl on facebook. I'll be selling more once I get my stock in. It takes forever to get things from China, but you can't beat the price. Plus, I test the batteries for 2 cycles before I sell them. I don't want to get any returns :)  I'll be including the wall charger, usb charger, an extra wick, the battery, the atomizer (tank where the liquid is), and a lanyard.  You'd pay around $80 for this in a smoke shop.  The battery is a 900 mah. There is so much to learn and the ecf - electronic cigarette forum is a great place and youtube is fabulous.  There are so many things to learn and quick fixes, etc. Here is the link to the forum.   <a href="http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/forum.php">http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/forum.php</a>  If I can help anyone, please feel free to ask.  I'm more than happy to share what info I know with you. :)

Nina, I have been reading lots and lots on that forum and have learned quite a bit about what a lot are calling a hobby. I can see how it can turn into that. "
Because now I want a real PV. lol The Blu is working just fine for me right now but I need something bigger, more battery life, more juice, etc. Let me get all the specifics about what I want, battery size, type, tank size, etc and I will let you build me a set for around $35. I'd be happy to pay that. I can show you the chargers I have and maybe can get away with what I have instead of paying for others. I'm assuming that once you get your stock in, you shipping to me would just take days and not weeks, right? "
Explain the drip tip . What does it do exactly?

I'm going to answer this with my personal take on all of it. Vaping isn't smoking.Smoking consists of using fire to burn something to then be able to consume the drug that my body and mind is addicted to ... nicotine. Because I am addicted to nicotine, I have decided to consume it by a different method that I believe is far less harmful to my body. 4 additives in e-juice compared to 4000 additives in a cigarette cannot be bad for me. With the e-juice, you can choose how much nicotine you want in it. So a person can actually ween themselves off of vaping eventually. You can also have 0 nicotine in your juice. Also, there are people who started vaping who never smoked a cigarette a day in their life. I am a creature by habit. We all are but I am more so, I feel. So I know that I probably will not be able to stop my intake of nicotine no matter what method I use to get it. When I told my daughter that I started vaping (she is a big anti-smoking person), I thought I would hear it all. Oh mom, you're still smoking etc. but I didn't hear that to my surprise. She said Good! . It was a co-worker of hers that turned me on to vaping actually. It was at her Christmas party. I didn't want to smoke in the hotel room some of us gathered in and went on the balcony. Her co-worker came outside and showed me her e-cig, let me try it and since then, I have thought about making the switch. I mentioned to my daughter that I was hesitant to use it while I was out just because of the no smoking laws and she said people do it all the time. (she gets out a whole lot more than I do. lol) She even has a doctor who vapes in his office at her dental office. Not that I need her approval, but knowing I have chosen to do something that she won't roll her eyes at is making this easier. It took me 7 months of convincing to just try it, let alone jump into it with both feet like I have lately. It's been a huge deal with me ever since. So since that is the case, something I have done for 30 years now will be hard to stop (in my mind as it has been proven that it can be done ... by others)

I found this article at webmd and thought i would share it with you."
e-cigs under fire"
They are nicotine delivery devices intended to be used like a cigarette. What happens to someone who stops inhaling the tars of cigarettes and inhales only nicotine? We don't know. There is at least the potential for harm. "
-- Norman Edelman, MD, chief medical officer, American Lung Association"
We are concerned about the potential for addiction and abuse of these products. We don't want the public to perceive them as a safer alternative to cigarettes. "
-- Rita Chapelle, FDA spokeswoman."
E-cigarettes don't make real smoke, yet they've ignited a firestorm of controversy."
You may have already seen e-cigarettes -- electronic cigarettes -- for sale on the Internet or at one of at least 62 kiosks at malls across the U.S."
E-cigarettes are safer than cigarettes, their makers say or imply. But until e-cigarettes are proven safe, the FDA is refusing to let them into the country and may soon ban their sale, as major U.S. medical associations have asked."
We have an open investigation into this issue, FDA spokeswoman Rita Chappelle tells WebMD. What is happening right now is FDA has reviewed several e-cigarettes, e-cigars, and e-pipes, and have refused entry of these products into the country. We acted because these products appear to require FDA approval for marketing, and have not been reviewed by the agency. "
An informal FDA review of some of these products indicated that these products are not currently approved, Chappelle says."
If the FDA bans e-cigarettes, an action many observers believe imminent, it won't be the first North American agency to do so. Last month, Canada's health agency banned the importation or sale of e-cigarette products."
What's all the fuss about? At the heart of the issue is a debate over what the e-cigarette really is."
What's an E-Cigarette?"
Like gunpowder, the e-cigarette is a Chinese invention. The first ones came from the Ruyan company in 2004. According to media reports, Ruyan says it sold 300,000 e-cigarettes in 2008, and it's far from the only company making the devices."
The e-cigarette comes in many shapes and sizes. Many look more or less like long cigarettes; others look like cigars or pipes. They all work the same basic way:"
The user inhales through a mouthpiece."
Air flow triggers a sensor that switches on a small, battery-powered heater."
The heater vaporizes liquid nicotine in a small cartridge (it also activates a light at the lit end of the e-cigarette). Users can opt for a cartridge without nicotine."
The heater also vaporizes propylene glycol (PEG) in the cartridge. PEG is the stuff of which theatrical smoke is made."
The user gets a puff of hot gas that feels a lot like tobacco smoke."
When the user exhales, there's a cloud of PEG vapor that looks like smoke. The vapor quickly dissipates."
E-cigarettes contain no tobacco products; even the nicotine is synthetic."
The devices retail for $100 to $200. Refill cartridge packs vary in price depending on nicotine content, and liquid for do-it-yourself refills are sold, too. Each cartridge is good for several uses."
Are e-cigs bad?"
Edelman says nicotine addiction is bad and that people with the habit need help quitting, not help continuing their habit in more socially acceptable ways."
And there's no proof that e-cigarettes don't cause long-term harm. That's what bothers all the health experts who discussed e-cigarettes with WebMD."
We cannot say they are good or bad because we don't have any scientific proof, says Eliana Mendes, MD, a pulmonology researcher at the University of Miami."
What happens to someone who stops inhaling the tars of cigarettes and just inhales nicotine? We don't know, Edelman says. We are talking about use that might be three years, five years, 10 years, we just don't know. Once you have the nicotine habit, you are not likely to quit. "
Rather than quit, e-cigarettes might worsen users' nicotine habits, says Michael Eriksen, ScD, director of the institute of public health at Atlanta's Georgia State University and former director of CDC's office of smoking and health."
I have seen no evidence that people switch from tobacco cigarettes to e-cigarettes or other smokeless tobacco products, Eriksen tells WebMD. If you look at how smokeless products are marketed, they are sold as something to use at times you can't smoke. The implication is you will increase nicotine exposure, not reduce smoking. We'll just be encouraging people to use more nicotine. "
Youngblood says his e-cigarette products are being marketed only to people who already smoke and already have a nicotine addiction. But Eriksen says the unregulated sale of these products might get new users hooked -- users who might then start smoking."
Will e-cigarettes get fewer people smoking? Or will people start with e-cigarettes and graduate to tobacco cigarettes? It is unknown whether these things are good, bad, or indifferent, he says. If for every person who used e-cigarettes there was one fewer person smoking tobacco cigarettes, that would be good. But there is no evidence that will occur. "
And there's one more issue that troubles doctors. University of Miami pediatrician and lung specialist Michael Light, PhD, says underage users will get their hands on e-cigarettes -- even if marketers like Youngblood refuse to sell them to minors."
It will be easy for kids to get the product, Light tells WebMD. It could be a way to get kids into the nicotine habit to get them to smoke. It is a ploy.

My take is pretty simple: You're either a smoker or a non-smoker. If you want to quit you will by whatever means you choose. I am a smoker. I enjoy it. I don't plan on quitting any time soon. "
Vaping has definitely cut down my nicotine use. I was at a nicotine level of 14 to 20 and now I'm down to an 8 to 10. When my body adjusts to a certain nicotine level, I lower it a bit more. I make my own e juice using kosher usp vegetable glycerin, naturally derived nicotine and natural flavor oils/juices. Some call this organic juice. It may or may not be healthier than other juices. I'm still inhaling the vapor into my lungs. Only long term studies will tell."
With the bans on real cigarette smoking, it was pretty much inevitable that a substitute would be created. From what I've been reading, places where real cigs are banned are also banning e cigs. The big tobacco companies have recently jumped on the band wagon too. They are producing their own brand of e cigs to compete with the existing products. "
Right now e cigs are an alternative to smoking real cigs and somewhat of a fad. This too shall pass. I liken it to the energy shots like 5 hour energy, or the super caffeinated sodas. Everyone was in an uproar at first, but things have died down. They were / are considered dangerous for consumption but once the initial craze died down, I'm assuming fewer people used them. I'm just guessing about this. I have no facts to back this. Like anything new, people will try it. Then it gets old and boring and they stop. Just my two cents. :)"
Yes, if kids want to try vaping, they'll find a way to get the e cigs. Just like they do with drinking, drugs, sex, etc. Its human nature to try to get away with something they aren't supposed to do. Silly kids.

the blu charger won't work for the ego series batteries.  the drip tip is the what you put on top of the tank where you put the juice.  It screws in and it is a mouth piece.  some people use them to direct vape.  I think they put a drop or two on the coils and inhale some how.  i'm not sure about this process cuz i'm not going to do this :)  My charger died on me today.  Hubby had to go get me one at the smoke shop.  $9 plus tax.  omg, Its only $1.72 from the factory.  grrrrr, what a mark up.  If you want, check out the site and see what you like.  Use the link below to get to it. :)  Thank you.    <a href="http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-4133458-10934599?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.priceangels.com%2Fcj.html%3Freurl%3DEGO-USB-4-2V-420mA-Charging-Cable-for-Electronic-Cigarette-s686600.html&cjsku=686600">http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-4133458-10934599?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.priceangels.com%2Fcj.html%3Freurl%3DEGO-USB-4-2V-420mA-Charging-Cable-for-Electronic-Cigarette-s686600.html&cjsku=686600</a>

Thanks for that, daremeto. Definitely a good read. Not saying that this is the reason for it, but it's not enough to stop me from continuing on with the e-cig. I don't want to smoke real cigarettes anymore. This is the only way (one way that doesn't involve pills, patches and gum) that I can see me being successful. It's the only method that simulates smoking a cigarette which is what I need.

Thanks for clearing that up.  I don't know how soon I'll be ready to order but I am looking at the site for stuff to put together to make my perfect personal vaporizer. I'll get with you when I am ready.
