Cats have an extra vomeronasal organ in the roof of their mouth that allows them to taste the air or a scent to be more exact. If you have ever seen a cat intently smelling something and then lift his head with his mouth slightly open and an almost unpleasant expression on his face, that is most likely what he is doing. Tasting a smell.2. A cat named Stubbs has been Mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska since 1997 and still is! My kind of town.3. Clowder is the word used to refer a group of cats.4. Cats have 20 muscles that they use just to control their ears.5. A cat named Tommaso is the richest cat in the world and worth $13 million dollars. Tommaso acquired his wealth when his owner, an Italian heiress passed away at the age of 94 and left her entire estate him. Since Italian law prohibits willing your fortune to an animal, Tommaso's owner named her own nurse as caretaker. Lucky cat!6. During the 1960's Tried to make a cat spy by placing a transmitter in the skull and a microphone in the ear of a cat. Sadly even though the cat survived the surgery, she was struck by a taxi cab and killed on mission.7. Like humans being right or left handed, cats too are right and left pawed. Who knew? It seems the males are most often left pawed and females are typically right pawed.8. Though cats have five toes on their front paws, they have only four toes on their back paws with the exception of polydactyl cats. Polydactyl cats exhibit a genetic mutation causing them to be born with extra toes.9. The first cat in space was named Felicette. In 1963, French rocket scientists launched Felicette into space. Thankfully, she survived to tell about it.10. Much like a human finger print a cats nose is covered with a unique pattern.11. When a cat brings you a mouse or other dead thing, you may think they mean it as a gift to you. They actually do it because they think you are a bad hunter.
