SBE and Stockbridge bought the Sahara in 2007. SBE closed the 59-year-old Sahara last May, saying the resort was no longer economically viable to operate. All the Sahara's furnishings and memorabilia were sold in an estate sale. But now, the Sahara is being resurrected as the SLS Las Vegas. The $300 million needed to revive the hotel/casino, that has been at the forefront of the Stips north end, has been acquired. SLS Las Vegas should be operational by the year 2014. sourceIs this a little too late for the Las Vegas monorail company which sent their latest reorganization plan to a judge? The closure of the Sahara was mentioned in court papers stating loss of revenue due to the hotel/casino closure.
