There's exciting news to report in the fight against the UIGEA. A number of websites reported late Tuesday that Barney Frank's HR 6870, an anti-UIGEA bill that evolved from his HR 5767 that failed earlier this summer, passed the first stage of legislation , winning a 30-19 vote in the House Financial Services Committee. It still has a long road ahead, but the fact that Frank was able to rework the bill to get it passed says a few things: That Rep. Frank is committed to resolving the whole UIGEA mess, and that other members of Congress may be slowly realizing what a disastrous bill really UIGEA is (for not only online gamers but also for America's financial services sector, which hardly needs more difficulties imposed upon it right now).
