Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling:                  I could end the deficit in 5 minutes, he told CNBC. You just          pass a  law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more                   than 3% of  GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible          for re-election.            The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds)          took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified!  Why? Simple!           The people demanded it. That was in 1971 - before computers, e-mail,           cell phones, etc.                    Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year          or less to become the law of the land - all because of public pressure.                      Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to          a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask          each of those to do likewise.            In three days, most people in The United States of America will          have the message.  This is one idea that really should be passed          around.         Congressional Reform Act of 2012                            1.  No Tenure / No Pension.            A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no          pay when they're out of office.             2.   Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social           Security.            All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the          Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into          the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the          American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.             3.  Congress can purchase their own retirement plan,  just as all         Americans do.            4.  Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.          Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.            5.  Congress loses their current health care system and          participates in the same health care system as the American people.             6.  Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the          American people.             7.  All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void          effective 12/1/12. The American people did not make this          contract with Congressmen/women.            Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in          Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers          envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their          term(s), then go home and back to work.            If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will          only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive          the message.  Don't you think it's time?           THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!          If you agree, pass it on. If not, delete.          You are one of my 20+ - Please keep it going, and thanks

Yes, this is how you fix congress but is sending out emails like a chain letter going to do it? It'll get the word out, yes but how will it get into writing where I can sign something to support it? I'm with krystalkitty .... I don't understand the process.

We wrote off being able to have any say in the actual process unfortunately... Basically we have allowed them(gov't) to strip our rights away to the point that the only thing that will change it is what our founding fathers did and I don't see that happening anytime soon. Regardless though you can go through all the bills and laws and garbled nonsense that no one including the people writing it can understand with a fine tooth comb and look for all the key phrases such as amends this part of the constitution and or updates this part of the bill of rights clauses etc... and anytime you see them run from that and don't sign it cause its probably us signing away more of our rights to be safe or at least thats what they package the laws to look like is some awesome thing that's gonna save lives and feed hungry people and fix the broken economy when what it really is saying is sign here to give us the right to...(Fill in Blank here) do whatever we want cause we can cause you signed this update statute or amended amendment that says you dont have that right anymore! It's a travesty and a sad sad state of affairs but here we sit ... grrrrrr. Hell we cant even play at casinos with our money cause that makes us potential terrorists somehow still have yet to figure that one out myself but it does apparently!

I think Aaron is referring to online gambling and that the feds have mentioned something to the affect that we could be funding terrorist activities if we gamble online. Here's what a quick search brought up ....Currently there is a debate in the United States over the legal status of Internet Gambling; specifically, playing Poker for real money over the Internet. Many of those who are opposed to Internet Gambling in the United States claim that Internet Gambling sites are used to fund terrorist organizations & activities. Is there are actual evidence to back up this claim? Do terrorists use internet gambling sites as a source of funding or money laundering? The following appears in the Congressional Record, vols 109-122, pg 14297 (not sure if I'm citing this properly)Source link<blockquote style="margin:0px 0px 10px;padding:10px;border-width:0px 0px 0px 2px;border-left-style:solid;border-left-color:#FFFF00;font-size:14px;vertical-align:baseline;background-color:#fffdf5;font-family:'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif;line-height:19.600000381469727px;">Worse, the FBI, the Department of Justice, and the Department of State have all stated that Internet gambling can be exploited to launder money for such groups as drug dealers, organized crime, and terrorist organizations.[/QUOTE]

Ok, I'm not the brightest guy in the room, but isn't that what we PAY Homeland Security, the FBI, the C.I.A. etc. etc to do?Follow the money to the benefactor? Why can't they decide each case individually, instead of lumping ALL online casinos as these criminals, and terrorists? Also, if we keep altering our lives, living in fear of what MIGHT happen, don't the terrorists win? To me, that is exactlywhat terrorism means, stopping people from living their everyday, normal lives? No, I'm not saying ignore all threats,I am saying that at no time in my life have I felt less FREE than I do today!I'm no rebel, or reactionary, but you can bet your sweet bippy, I'll be at the polls every election.

You have to remember that people opposed to anything will twist all words around for their own propaganda, Mikey.  Many of those who are opposed to Internet Gambling in the United States claim that Internet Gambling sites are used to fund terrorist organizations & activities. You see it (propaganda) daily with the ads being forced down our throats by the presidential campaigns on TV. I don't know if the FBI, CIA, etc have actually connected online gambling to terrorist activities. They probably have and I just haven't came across it or remembered if I have read it. Anyway, all of our sweet bippy's appreciate that you vote! lol
