Loving the new features on the free Windows 10

I just love the features on Windows 10. I have had display themes on my laptop before but these colors on the menu change with the theme on the display. So cool! Cortana is great too! Still trying to learn and get around. It is free for the first year then after that you have to buy it. But once you have it free it is yours you do not have to pay for it. So let all your friends and relatives know. Here is the link:

It is cool. It took me like 2 hrs to download Windows 10. And it is so easy, they do all the work. I always did like playing around with the picture themes, lol. There are more free ones online also.

Okay, I will stop posting now, lol. Maybe someone else has photos of what they do with Windows. I can always learn something new.

 I think the way it changes to match colors is pretty cool, and sitting there playing with it is exactly what I would do too! ;)

Thanks for the sneak peek, slotgal. I'm still waiting to get the notification that the upgrade is ready for me.

See my last post here ... https://www.nodepositforum.com/threads/my-name-is-psp-and-i-am-a-geek.58810202/page-2

Personally, I do not like all the frills. I want a desktop with icons. I rarely change my background which is usually a solid color. I have too much stuff on my desktop that the icons get lost with a picture as a background.

So what's this about having to pay for Win 10 after a year? I'll check on that from the link you gave us. Thanks!

Never mind ... I get it what you were saying now.

It is free for the first year then after that you (those who didn't download the free upgrade during the year that is was available for free) have to buy it.

But once you have it free it is yours you do not have to pay for it.

The sentence afterward didn't compute obviously. lol This heat and humidity is frying my brain. Sorry.

I guess I wasn't the only one confused. lol http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/06/17/windows-10-free-for-1-year-what-happens-next/

I really is just like my ipad. It even has a store with apps! windows5.jpg

It's easy for me I guess because I have an ipad. But still don't know how to use half the stuff, lol!

I think I'm keeping my windows 7.
Windows 10 looks a lot like 8 and I hate 8.
Windows 7 acts just like XP which I barely even quit using a couple months ago.
I'll stay in my comfort zone.

I need to find someone who has Win 7 so I can play around on it. I want to see the difference between 7 and 8 just because. I have had all the Windows OS on my PCs and feel like I am missing something since I skipped Win 7. Like my life is not complete somehow. lol

I love 7.

But I wish it had the Cortana slotgirl was talking about. I would sit there at night and be like ...

"Alright Cortana, exactly how drunk am I? Hmmm?"

"What color are my underwear?"

Mben Windows 8 looks sort of like Windows 10, like the first photos I posted. But 10 is much better to me. Very similar to my iPad air, the functionality of it that is. Windows 7 is what I switched from and it looks nothing like 8 or 10. I still have XP on one of my computers and it's okay for a backup computer but nothing I really like to use now.

What you are seeing in slotgal47's screenshots is the Win 10 desktop with the start menu open. If you close the start menu, your desktop will look nearly identical to Win XP or Win 7.

I also use a solid color for the background, but I usually have one of my patented inappropriate images in the center - and just like Win 8, you can select several pictures and have them change every so often.

As you know, I've been using Win 10 since November. It is VASTLY superior to Win 8 and very intuitive. The learning time to become proficient should be very short.

Thanks for all that, PSP. I will update as soon as they have it ready for me. There is the option to go back if I don't like it so I do have a safety net.

So you say "if you close the start menu, your desktop will look nearly identical to Win XP or Win 7" ... I use the desktop in Win 8 exclusively which looks identical to Win XP too. The only time I bring up the app screen (hitting the Windows button on the keyboard) is to open a casino real fast instead of going to start, programs, etc. I can click a casino app button with my eyes closed. I have them that memorized on the app screen. lol

So the question is ... do you think Win 8's desktop is that much different than Win XP and 7? I'm asking because you didn't list it.

The Win 8 desktop is similar as well, but IMO it makes you jump through too many hoops to do many things. The addition of the start menu with all of the features readily available is a big help.

You also don't have to guess where the power button is :weird:

Thanks PSP for clarifying that for everyone. I guess I thought they already knew it was open. I will put up another pic with it closed and use the actuual Windows 10 background. and yes Windows 8 was a headache. I had to work on son's computer and it was a nightmare finding things. Windows 10 is super easy to learn to use with so many new things and apps we are already familiar with.

Okay so sorry for the guys, I guess I just assumed you knew that was open. Here it is closed.

Thanks for that link, slotgal.

I'll be heading straight to the settings to change a lot of the privacy defaults that Win 10 sets up automatically.

OK, Google?

I'm still waiting for one of my new computers to come back from the HP shop before I download 10. I am on 7 on this old screwy laptop and don't want to screw it up worse.
