A “must pass” Omnibus Spending Bill is set to be sent out for a vote and should pass with flying colors. Fears among online gambling enthusiasts were that the bill would also be acting as a sort of “pork magnet”. In other words, folks in Congress had one last vehicle in which to attach their own measures, many of which are unrelated to spending per se.

An online gambling prohibition measure promoted by GOP mega donor and Vegas casino magnate was reportedly omitted from the aforementioned government spending bill this week following an outcry from conservative groups who believed Adelson’s pet project would infringe on states rights.

"If we can’t get it into the omnibus, it won’t be in anything,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said in a brief interview of the online prohibitions.

The news follows reports appearing on the Gambling911.com website that House Speaker John Boehner had already shot down attempts to get the online gambling prohibition measure passed among the Representatives.

Some of the items tucked into the Spending Bill include a measure to prevent the the sage-grouse from being placed on the Endangered Species List and an amendment that makes white potatoes eligible for purchase through the federal food program.

The measure must pass Thursday night but was facing some major opposition late Wednesday after a provision was added that rolled back Wall Street regulations and could deliver a financial bounty to big banks.
