Rumor has it that Poker Stars is going to buy Full Tilt Poker after the Groupe Bernard Tapie, which was in talks to acquire Full Tilt Poker following last April's indictments, has backed out of the deal on Tuesday. If the sale goes through, it is great news for players who are still owed money by Full Tilt because as stated here ... Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars both had accounts froze by US authorities on that date. Unlike FTP (Full Tilt Poker), however, Stars was able to pay all customers within a month following the seizures.

Like you said, it remains to be seen...
Actually, they did. The original post in this thread was made over 3 years ago. Since then this has already played out. On July 31, 2012, PokerStars bought its former competitor, Full Tilt Poker. The $731 million deal settled a civil lawsuit with the Department of Justice while giving ownership of Full Tilt Poker's assets to PokerStars. (source)
